The Wren Classic Portfolio is being updated! (Aug 2023)
Every now and then, we update the Wren Classic Portfolio that subscribers (like yourself) support, to ensure you're always funding the best climate solutions possible. This does not change your subscription price and there's no action required, except to read on if you're curious.
1. Introducing community agroforestry in Timor-Leste:
- 🌱 Community Agroforestry in Timor-Leste—Our newest nature-based solution empowers smallholder farmers in Timor-Leste to restore degraded ecosystems through reforestation and improved land management.
Timor-Leste is a small island nation particularly vulnerable to the environmental and social effects of climate change. Through this project, farmers benefit from the trees they plant and manage—earning additional income, gaining agroforestry skills, and seeing increased crop yield due to improved ecosystem health.
We love this project as it's community-driven and measurable—with carbon sequestration rates being annually verified and validated. As of 2023, 1,600+ farmers have planted 450,000+ trees, with plans to plant even more.
2. Reframing our approach to climate impact:
- We’re taking a big step forward by reframing what it means to offset carbon and take climate action, with a holistic approach that enables us to fund both quantifiable CO2 offsets and equally vital unquantifiable solutions.
With this strategy, each project is assigned one of three categories—Certified offsets, In progress offsets, or Additional contributions. This allows us to maximize the climate impact per dollar spent and contribute to system-wide changes.
The most significant adjustments are for Enhanced Mineral Weathering and Tech-enabled Rainforest Protection—which will now be classified as In progress offsets and Additional contributions respectively. Even though categorizations have shifted, rest assured that previous offsets with these projects will stay untouched.
We always strive to improve our approach based on the most current information, so expect these benchmarks to be replaced by even more refined methodologies in the future. You can learn more about our new approach on our latest blog post.
