Wren Classic Portfolio Update: October 2024
Meet your new climate projects
Exciting news, we've added three projects to Wren Classic—the portfolio you support with your subscription. Check them out below:
🐬 Mangrove planting in Pakistan
This project restores degraded tidal wetlands and conserves mangrove ecosystems in the Indus Delta region within the Sindh province of Pakistan. It aims to revitalize 225,000 hectares of mangroves to sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, enhance biodiversity, and uplift and protect coastal communities.
🥘 Clean cookstoves in East Africa
This project reduces greenhouse gas emissions by transitioning households and businesses in East Africa from charcoal to clean alternatives, decreasing the reliance on non-renewable fuels. This project marks the dawn of a new era for cookstoves, with a rigorous approach, Gold Standard methodology, and A rating from BeZero. We're proud to be the primary buyer for its first batch of credits.
🏛️ Carbon Removal Alliance
This project advances policies that support a diverse set of permanent, high-quality carbon removal technologies. Our partner propels the carbon removal sector in the United States by creating and supporting carbon removal policies, fostering innovation through government collaboration, and building congressional champions.
Turning over a new leaf for mangroves
A couple of months ago, we announced that we'd fully funded our first batch of credits for Mangrove planting in Myanmar—a project we love and hope to bring back once more credits become available.
We've also made updates to Mangrove conservation in Mexico. Our partner for this project is experiencing a bureaucratic delay in the process for issuing carbon credits, so we've filled these credits with Mangrove planting in Pakistan. Your impact is unchanged.
Even though Mangrove conservation in Mexico isn't issuing carbon credits right now, it still does great work for our planet. We've kept this initiative in your portfolio as an Additional contributions project, which is the same category as Tech-enabled rainforest protection.
Adding insurance to Wren Classic
As part of our climate portfolios, Wren funds activities occurring now that will issue carbon credits in the future. For example, Enhanced rock weathering spreads basalt rock to remove atmospheric carbon, but the full effects can take up to 25 years to be realized.
That's why we're purchasing Kita insurance, to safeguard future deliveries and help us keep our promises to you—our members. We’ve built this into existing pricing, so it won’t cost you any extra.
Updated portfolio allocations
